Every obby you save in Obby Builder gets a slot code. That string is the share and load key for the course: parts, traps, checkpoints, buttons, signs, teleporters, music, advanced lighting, and one-way moving platforms travel with it. Friends paste the code in the Slots UI and the plot appears without rebuilding. This page explains how those codes behave, how Unlisted hides a course from public load lists, how custom thumbnails travel with the slot, and how Restore Data sits next to sharing.

How a slot code loads a plot
Open the Slots UI from the in-game menu. Find the load field, paste the string, and confirm. The experience pulls that slot into your session so you can play or inspect it. On a 10-player server this is the fastest way to get a lobby onto the same course. For hosted sessions, send the code in chat, then wait until everyone has loaded before you start a timed run.
Multiple slots exist so you can keep a public course, a draft, and a sandbox without overwriting one file. Name slots clearly. A code always points at one slot; if you overwrite that slot, people with the old expectation may load a different layout. When you iterate on a featured candidate, duplicate to a new slot before risky edits.
Custom slot thumbnails help people recognize your course in lists and in messages. Capture the first jumps, not a blank lobby. If you change the start, update the thumbnail so loaders are not surprised. A mismatched thumbnail is one of the most common reasons playtesters think a code is broken.
Unlisted, featured, and who can find you
Unlisted is the privacy switch. An Unlisted plot stays hidden from the load browser and from featured or trending carousels. The slot code still works for anyone who has it. Use Unlisted for unfinished killbricks, surprise routes, and private co-op rehearsals. When you want curator attention, turn Unlisted off and follow Get Featured instead of hoping a leaked code will be picked.
Highlighted courses are curator-picked. Trending lists follow likes and traffic. A slot code cannot force either surface. Share codes with testers first, collect honest likes after the route is fair, then submit or wait for Highlighted if the layout holds up. Spamming a code in every lobby while Unlisted is still on wastes time because strangers cannot browse to you.
Online co-op is easier when the host owns the canonical slot. Agree who pastes the code and who only playtests. Two builders publishing different codes under the same course name is how lobbies split. Keep one stable slot for visitors and a second slot for experiments.
Restore, overwrite, and missing plots
The Slots UI includes Restore Data. Use it when a plot vanished after a disconnect, a studio crash, or a bad overwrite. Restore is not a promo redeem and it will not import a stranger’s code. Pair restore with your own backups: keep a second slot as a known-good copy, and store important codes in a note outside Roblox. The Restore Data page walks through the recovery order.
Failed loads have ordinary causes. A typo in the string, an Unlisted plot whose owner stopped sharing, a full 10-player server, or a slot that was cleared since the code was copied. Ask the owner to confirm Unlisted and that the slot still exists. If you are on console, confirm the paste buffer inserted the full string.
Lighting, music, and moving platforms should appear after a successful load. If a teleporter or checkpoint is missing, the owner may have edited after they sent the code. Request a fresh string rather than assuming the game deleted your progress. Outdated codes are not expired promo codes; they simply point at a slot that changed.
Sharing without mixing up rewards
Give codes to playtesters before you open likes. A first impression on an unfinished hallway will not help the Got a Like! badge. For public courses, keep one stable slot with a thumbnail and a second slot for experiments. If you load a community plot, play it fairly before you like it. Leaderboards and likes are how Highlighted and Trending stay useful.
Group join rewards advertised on the game page are separate. Joining Obby Builder Studio does not mint a slot code. A slot code does not replace those unpublished bonuses. As of September 2026 there are still no official cash or item redeem codes.
When a friend cannot load your plot, walk them through the Slots UI rather than shouting the code in all caps. Send the thumbnail so they know they grabbed the right slot. If you unpublished the course, say so. Slot codes are powerful because they skip rebuilding; they are fragile because they always point at whatever currently sits in that slot.
