Lighting, Movers, and Emotes in Obby Builder

Advanced lighting, one-way platforms, spinners, and the Emotes menu after you have a finishable line.

Lighting, Movers, and Emotes

The live Obby Builder description calls out advanced lighting, one-way moving platforms, extra movers and spinners, new part mechanics, and an Emotes menu. Those tools sit on top of a course, they do not replace it. Place a spawn, platforms, and a checkpoint from How to Build first. Then use this page to add motion and mood without hiding the path.

This is not Obby Creator. There is no public part-ID catalog and no Advanced Tools gamepass. What exists is the in-game palette plus the documented drops: lighting properties, one-way movers, more spinners, and emotes. Treat every gadget as optional until a runner can finish in default lighting on default jump.

Advanced lighting without hiding jumps

Lighting sells a theme. It also hides killbricks. Night palettes, heavy fog, and neon-only floors make mobile players miss the next pad. Keep contrast on the route: a brighter path, a darker pit, a checkpoint that still reads as a checkpoint. If you want a horror mood, light the landing, not the trap. Playtest on a phone, not only on a bright monitor.

Change lighting after the layout is fair, not before. Unlisted the slot while you experiment so Trending does not pick a black box. Custom thumbnails should match the live lighting; a sunny thumbnail on a night course feels like bait and costs likes. When you publish, turn Unlisted off and recopy the slot code from slot codes.

Rainbow Parts (99 Robux) is a color pass, not a lighting pass. It will not save a muddy night map. Spend that Robux after the path is readable in default colors.

One-way movers and spinners

One-way moving platforms are in the documented feature set. They are useful for drops, conveyor hallways, and routes that should not be reverse-engineered. They are cruel when the only landing is a killbrick and there is no checkpoint after the ride. Telegraph the direction. Give a rest pad at the end. If a runner falls, they should resume at the last checkpoint, not the spawn.

Spinners and extra movers showed up in experience events as “more movers and spinners” and “new part mechanics.” Use one motion idea per section. A spinner plus a one-way plus a teleporter in the same gap is a screenshot, not a course. Place signs if the motion is not obvious. Music can hint timing; keep the volume down so it does not mask jump audio on mobile.

Buttons, teleporters, and checkpoints still outrank gadgets. A teleporter that skips a broken mover is a kindness. A teleporter that dumps people into an unlit spinner is how you stay off Highlighted. Rank those parts on the parts list and steal spacing from courses you actually beat.

Emotes at the finish, not in the jump

The Emotes menu is a live headline on the game page. Emotes are for the lobby, the win pad, and screenshots. They do not place parts. Do not design a jump that only works if someone emotes. Do not block a checkpoint with an emote prompt. Put a clear end pad, then let people emote.

If you are filming a thumbnail, emote on a well-lit finish, not on a spinner. Highlighted curators look at the course, not the dance. Likes still come from finishes. The Got a Like badge stays rare (~8.4% win rate). Gadgets will not change that math. Visibility steps live on get featured.

Playtest the new toys

After you add a mover or a lighting change, run the course without coils, then with Fusion Coil if you own it. Invite a friend in co-op and watch where they stop. If they stop at the spinner, the spinner is the problem. Copy the slot code before the edit so Restore Data can roll back a lighting experiment that made the plot unreadable.

Run the build checklist after gadgets, not only after the first platforms. Tick mover direction, lighting contrast, music volume, and thumbnail match. Then publish.

What this page will not invent

Exact slider names, numeric light values, and spinner RPM are not on a public studio sheet. This wiki will not fake them. Use the in-game properties panel. If a drop adds a named part, it will show up in the build UI and on latest update. Until then, build with contrast, one motion per section, and a finish people can emote on.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Obby Builder questions.

Should I add lighting before checkpoints?

No. Place spawn, platforms, and a checkpoint first using How to Build. Lighting comes after the line is finishable.

Do one-way movers belong on a first plot?

Only one, with a rest pad and a checkpoint after the ride. Farm a mover on someone else's course via beat community obbies before you spam them.

Are emotes required to beat a course?

They should not be. Keep emotes at the finish pad. Likes still come from a fair route, as get featured explains.

Will Rainbow Parts fix dark lighting?

No. Rainbow Parts is a color effect. Contrast on the path matters more. Compare passes on the gamepass ranks.

My lighting edit made the plot unreadable. Now what?

Load your backup slot code or use Restore Data in the Slots UI before you rebuild.
